Pindar Winery History:

Wine has enchanted poets for centuries, and for good reason: like poetry, good wine can be an emotional experience, lifting the spirit and delighting the senses as it satisfies the soul.

At Pindar Vineyards, our award-winning wines are quite literally dreams come true. It was the dream of our founder, Dr. Herodotus “Dan” Damianos, that helped create the winemaking industry on Long Island in the early 1980’s. And that dream has, over nearly 30 years, turned Pindar Vineyards into Long Island’s best-known wine producer.

Today Pindar Vineyards encompasses more than 500 scenic acres. We grow 17 varieties of grapes, crafting them into some 23 varietals and proprietary blends. We produce 70,000 cases of wine a year, making us the largest vineyard on Long Island. But at heart we are still a family with a personal touch in every aspect of our business.

Pindar Vineyards is a labor of love for Dr. Dan and his family. Dr. Dan’s wife of over 40 years, Barbara, is an invaluable member of the business, spearheading charity efforts, working in the tasting room, and helping promote the wines to restaurants and other venues across Long Island. The three Damianos sons are respected winemakers in their own right: Alexander is owner and general manager Duck Walk Vineyards, Jason has launched his own vineyard, Jason’s Vineyard, and Pindar is Director of Vineyard Management at the winery that shares his name. Dr. Dan’s daughters, too, are actively involved in making Pindar Vineyards what it is today: Alethea is a key administrator in the business office and also works in the tasting rooms, while Eurydice promotes branding initiatives in her hometown — New York City — while maintaining her own medical practice.

2007 Cabernet Franc

2007 Cabernet Franc – NEW RELEASE This vintage is a classic representation of what Cabernet Franc grapes have to offer. Fruity, almost jammy upfront with hints of plum and raspberry and a soft herbaceousness. Well-rounded and slightly spicy on the finish, this is one of Long Island’s signature grape varietals. A classic pairing with beef, duck, and robust seafood.

2008 Syrah

2008 Syrah Pindar Vineyards produced Long Island’s first Syrah and it continues to be one of our standouts. Soft, bright, and juicy, it has a lightly peppery nose with leather, red berry, and lavender notes. Full, earthy flavors of bacon, vanilla, toast and oak.

2007 Merlot

2007 Merlot This is a big wine with solid black and red fruit notes. Oak aging lends it hints of vanilla, toast, and yogurt. Ready to enjoy now, but it will continue gaining complexity for many years. Superb with robust dishes, including duck, salmon, and beef.

2006 Barrel Select Merlot Reserve

2006 Barrel Select Merlot Reserve A vintage wine from a vintage year. This Merlot is intense and fragrant, with rosemary, vanilla, red currant and blackberry on the nose. Full-bodied with soft tannins and a velvety, assertive finish. Holds its own with big flavors, including Italian dishes.

2007 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon Barrel Select

2007 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon Barrel Select A full-bodied wine that never fails to satisfy, with a complex nose of tar, roses, dark berries and toasted vanilla. Full of deep fruit flavors, this gentle giant is ready to enjoy now but will continue to develop in your cellar for many years. A natural with hearty meats and Italian dishes.

Sweet Scarlett

Sweet Scarlett A red wine that is “user friendly.” Full-bodied but with a hint of sweetness, this off-dry wine is great chilled (we prefer it this way) or at room temperature. Serve it with barbecue foods, hamburgers, Italian foods (especially red sauces), and spicy cuisine (such as Indian).

2007 Cabernet Sauvignon

2007 Cabernet Sauvignon – SORRY, SOLD OUT This Cabernet Sauvignon is from the glorious 2007 vintage year. Lucious dark berry fruit abounds upfront, with a hint of vanilla, green tea and cassis. The palate has medium fruit with firm tannins and a smooth finish. This Cabernet has superb aging capabilities.

2008 Gamay Noir – SORRY, SOLD OUT A soft, light-bodied and fruit-forward red, with invigorating notes of teaberry, cranberry, and bergamot. Best consumed young, this is a must for the barbecue or chilled with cheese and crackers.
